Trojan Horse Approach

The INDENTRO framework includes the subtle integration of  underlying developmental practices within video game play, aimed to improve multiple lines of intelligence (cross-training) + other core aspects of personal growth.

Like the ancient Greeks used surreptitious strategies to win their war, video games can intentionally support a proactive "inner (good) battle" against our deeply ingrained resistances to grow and change. Read more...

INDENTRO Framework

The Integral-Developmental Trojan Horse INDENTRO video game design framework offers a deep, broad and integrative approach composed of practical tools for leveraging various human developmental practices into video game play - merging for the first time the worlds of Entertainment and Developmental Psychology

Applying this model as a Developmental Psychology framework can support game designers to skilfully create fun and popular video games with an "extra (hidden) agenda": Personal growth! Read more...

Testimonials - Integral Academic Research

"Moses Silbiger has been doing a breakthrough exploration on the untapped territory of designing integral-developmental video games as ‘Trojan horses’ for catalyzing human development through what I call the ‘Conveyor belt of Growth’.

His research points into a significant and timely needed re-integration of the ‘worlds’ of entertainment (arts), technology (science), and integral development (morals) into new levels of inter-dependence through novel and proactive interactive-entertainment applications..."

Projects

As the founder of the press play to grow! initiative, Moses Silbiger, M.A. has been involved in a couple of emerging projects in conjunction with a few friends, partners and supporters.

Moses is currently writing a book and articles about applying integral-developmental psychology and coaching concepts into game design, providing INDENTRO video game consulting services to game designers and video game studios, and co-designing video game concepts based on his academic research and INDENTRO framework.

Sustainability & Video Games

The press play to grow! initiative has been involved in a couple of emerging projects based on the creation of conceptual designs of specific video games based on the INDENTRO framework.

Among these ventures, Moses Silbiger has been organizing an international sustainability project in partnership with three game designers:

Rusel DeMaria
Game author, designer and consultant
Richard Cabelka
Game designer, Hong Kong Polytechnic University
Robin Potanin
Game designer, University of Adelaide, Australia

The purpose of this project is to create the conceptual design of an unprecdedented multi-platform video game system (MMO, ARG, iPhone, Online Social Networks) based on concepts and applications of Integral Sustainability, Ecology and Developmental Psychology. This proposal has been supported by the State of the World Forum, Integral Life and the Integral Institute.

Spiritual Gaming! A concept waiting to be fully embraced

I recently participated in an interview with E.J. Gold about "Spiritual Gaming" on August 6th, 2010.

The length of the whole interview was 2 hours long, and it is still in the process of editing and transcription (I plan to be publishing it here soon, and it will be also published in some of their websites listed below). If you are interested in this topic, please check a small 6 minute excerpt of my recent interview with E.J. Gold and Claude Needham.

What is Spiritual Gaming?
by E.J. Gold & Claude Needham, Ph.D.

Spiritual Gaming could be defined as the use of gaming in the service of spiritual goals.

The general study of Spiritual Gaming is not restricted to any particular spiritual orientation. A kind of one size fits all.

Spiritual Gaming is a concept whose time has come. It is broader than any particular spiritual religion, affiliation, school or belief system, and its potential transcends individual considerations.

NEWS! (July 15, 2010)

I am glad to inform that my academic article has been just published in the new Integral Research issue of the Journal of Integral Theory and Practice (JITP) from SUNY Press.
The name is "Press Play to Grow! Designing Video Games as “Trojan Horses” to Catalyze and Integrate Human Development".
It is a thoroughly revised and updated version of a previous article I wrote for the ITC 2008 conference (which was published in the Integral Life website & Ken Wilber's blog).
There are also some interesting articles written by some of my good friends and colleagues at JFK University.

Data & Statistics

Attention UPA!
Untapped Potentials Ahead!

“From all the entertainment media existent today [music, TV, movies, web, books, cartoons, theater], the video game industry is the fastest growing and one of the most popular, pervasive and profitable segments in the already ‘trillion-dollar-a-year’ entertainment industry” (Bryant & Vorderer, 2006).

"Today, video games have already surpassed the growth of both music and movie industries altogether" (PricewaterhouseCoopers, 2007; Discovery Channel, 2007).

According to Marketdata Enterprises, a group that tracks major cultural trends, the self-improvement business is expected to hit $12 billion in the U.S. by 2008.

Paul Zane Pilzer - world-renowned economist, entrepreneur and writer - comments that the "wellness revolution" is gradually becoming the "next trillion dollar industry".

According to Ethical Markets Media (USA and Brazil), private investment in companies have been growing the green economy globally with over $1.248 trillion in total investments related to sustainable development since 2007.

In 2008, it was estimated that 42% of homes had a video game console in the US (ESA, 2009), with 40% of video game players being female, and 60% male.

The average age of a gamer today is now 35-years old...

Mission Statement

Mission Statement

Press Play to Grow! explores the emergent potentials of video games and virtual reality simulations through novel applications intentionally designed to catalyze personal growth, transformation and integration of multiple intelligences.

By tapping into the markets niches of Self-improvement, Self-Help, Wellness and Sustainability (Green, Eco markets), Press Play to Grow! envisions a natural (and unavoidable) expansion of video games' potential applications to a broader range of players, creating new and untapped market niches by reaching different age demographics, genres, cultures, organizations, institutions and industries.

This project intends to improve the basic entertainment, popular and marketable drives of successful video game design by intentionally integrating underlying layers of scientifically based developmental assessments and practices based on Integral-Developmental Psychology and Coaching.

These underlying developmental tools are intended to provide meaningful and developmental game play experiences skilfully adapted to players's personal profiles, decisions and realities.

Cross-Training developmental practices are strategically embedded in the game design structure, storylines and mechanics in subtle ways by means of a "Trojan Horse Approach" - and hence not being patronizing, literal or overtly apparent throughout the game play.

The Press Play to Grow! initiative has been developed by Moses Silbiger, M.A. in conjunction with like-minded researchers, game designers, thinkers and enthusiasts for gaming and human development. Learn more...
