Integral Life Practice

Integral Life Practice (ILP) is:
- An emergent framework of (Wilber, Patten, Leonard & Morelli, 2008) that can provide important insights and tools for application in the design of INDENTRO video games.
- Composed by an “ultimate body-mind-spirit cross training” designed to facilitate a healthier and more integrated process of human development, divided in four core modules.
- An approach that suggests four core modules composed by interdependent and complementary practices especially related to body (physical, kinesthetic, and somatic), mind (intellect and cognition), spirit (ontological, existential, and spiritual), and “shadow” (emotions, feelings, unconscious or repressed psychological aspects) (Wilber, 2000; Jung, 1989) - in addition, ILP also suggests a few auxiliary modules such as ethics, sex, work, emotions, relationships, etc.

According to Ken Wilber (2007), George Leonard & Michael Murphy (2005), to the extent that we engage in some kind of “cross-training” program for human development that can cover some of our main Lines of Intelligence, more will be the chances that growth in one or more lines start to literally “push” and catalyze integration and development in the others.
This groundbreaking fact has been confirmed by increasing research in the developmental psychology field. As an example, TM (Transcedental Meditation) practicioners improved their skills in both their cogniton, capacity of concentration, mindfulness and physical strenght much quicker and more significantly by applying a periodic combination of meditation and physical exercises, than practicioners who exercised only one of those two modalities. Also, practicioners of Zen meditation who are also engaged in psychodynamic therapy and "shadow work" tend to have a healthier and more balanced personalities and lives, by skilfully integrating contemplative practices, practical activities, and interpersonal skills.

"Enlightenment is a state that describes the degree to which we are truly and fully present, and the ILP Kit provides spiritual practices that unlock our innate presence. This is the simplest practice you can do to wake up to the now". Through the INDENTRO framework, I propose to include—as much as possible—those four core developmental modules of ILP, and ideally some auxiliary practices (matching specific game niches) into the structural design of integral-developmental video games, adapting them to different players, genres, storylines, and content. |
Moreover, they will be also capable of supporting the transformative practice of players interested in exercising some aspects of themselves that would be either more difficult, time consuming, or risky to explore in their “real lives:” both solo or in group. All of that could be possible through the sheer and transformative experience of “play”!
